Samiere

I’m a singer/songwriter/producer who’s out to become the number one music artist in the world.

I was sexually abused by my father at 8 years old, and was physically and emotionally abused by my mother. I was silenced by the church and my family, who were too ashamed to have this dark secret in the open. By the time I was in middle school I was extremely depressed and contemplated taking my life daily. I didn’t want to continue to live in a world that had brought me nothing but pain.

I decided to redefine my purpose so that I had a new reason to live. In 2014, I created a campaign called #DONTGIVEUP to help raise awareness for victims and survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I use my music and my influence to encourage others with similar pasts to continue to chase their dreams, to make those who need it aware that they are still capable of becoming everything they’ve always wanted to be, despite the horrible things that have happened to them. I moved to Los Angeles a victim, hoping to start over, pursue music, and find the courage to share my story. I am now that creative influence. I do think narrative plentitude will allow for more people of all walks of life to tell their story without judgement. It will allow for more human to human connection and understanding.

Narrative Plenitude is a global discussion that aims to project more authentic depictions of underrepresented communities in order to break past the one-size fits all story cycle told by mainstream media. What’s your narrative? Please email tanya.raukko@intertrend.com, if you would like to have your story featured.
