Lorelei and Casey

Lorelei’s Story

I am comfortable with who I am and myself.  At school, I share a class with a bunch of honor students and I feel they are very smart and “nerdy”. I am a good student but some of my classmates have A+ on everything, however, I do not want to be as “nerdy” as them.  Sometimes, they speak in a language that I do not understand and they like to get into real long discussions with the teacher about certain subject. This year, I continue to be in Girl Scout and have participated in many events and activities, such as camping, International Day, laser tag, cookie selling, and junior aids for younger scouts. I also love playing soccer and wish I can be a pro soccer player one day. In fact, I enjoy sports and many outdoor activities like skateboarding, kayaking, surfing, ice skating, sledding, and camping. Besides, being outdoorsy, I also enjoy reading Harry Potter, watching the Flash (my favorite show), cooking, listening to music (pop or hip-pop style), and playing Minecraft and Fornite games.

Casey’s Story

I feel I am like “Tiger” in Winne the Pooh story. I am usually free-spirited and worry-free. I do not care about dressing up and look “fancy”. I think a person is beautiful when she has make-up on but I also think I am pretty when I don’t have any makeup on as long as I brush my hair. When I see people on TV show have a dress showing their cleavage or butt, I think it is ugly.

I wish I can be a person who takes care of animals especially homeless animals when I grow up. I also would like to be a police woman who does not die. I am in Girl Scouts and soccer just like my sister. And I enjoy many similar outdoor activities, too. I like music and I used to play piano and make up my own songs and lyrics but I am afraid to perform publicly.

Lorelei and Casey’s mother Melody’s Story

The girls have many things in common as far as being athletic, the way they dress, and their experience. However, they each have different personalities. In general, Lorelei is more careful, disciplined, and conservative while Casey is more free-spirited and easy going.  I feel because their age and the environment they live in (home or school), they have not been exposed to or experience the many stereotype/prejudice/sexual/race issues that do exist in the society. Even if they have, they might not even recognize them because we as parents never want to emphasize or make comments regarding people’s gender, race, and social economic status. We do not want to categorize or stereotype people. So when they make friends or dislike a person, is based on how they behave as a person, not because of other reasons.
