Mariah Wynn
My name is Mariah Wynn, I’m 26 and based in Los Angeles. Growing up in rural Indiana in the 90’s-2000’s, I did not see queer representation hardly at all. It was considered very taboo to be a queer of any kind. The internet was just beginning, and I never was able to find a queer community there either.
I was able to find a queer community when I got older, but it would have been ideal to see queers in media when I was growing up. I feel more representation lately, as a queer person. I am also starting to see non-binary characters in shows, which is nice. It is not a casual thing that happens in media yet, but its starting to. I have hope for future generations, I think things are starting to get better.
Narrative Plenitude is a global discussion that aims to project more authentic depictions of underrepresented communities in order to break past the one-size fits all story cycle told by mainstream media.
