Rattanak “Onie”

What’s up? My name is Rattanak and I’m a Cambodian American person from Long Beach, California. It’s a city where all the Cambodian refugees congregated after the war. I came from a broken family, but with luck, I grew up with some good company.

One summer, a friend of mine told me about a nearby cultural center aka “Homeland” at a party and the rest was history. I found my identity at 16 years old, and it was locking. Since then I started going there almost every Monday for 12 years.

There are a lot of times where we do things that define us and some won’t find it. Luckily for me I was fortunate to have found mine. Today, I believe it was through my Long Beach community that I was able to find family through "movement” and achieve my current role as a manager at AT&T at the age of 28.
